Go Team!

Most of you who’ve known me for a long time know that my best friend since middle school is also named Karen and that she and her beautiful family live down in Texas now. Karen was one of the first of us to have children and her oldest, Katie is now going on 14. Karen has many reasons to be proud of all of her children and I have to highlight one of their achievements in this post and reach out to our readers.

I’m going to paraphrase here, so for the full details check out http://ninetexans.blogspot.com. Katie belongs to an Odyssey of the Mind team. Odyssey of the Mind is a creativity competition that has been in place for 25 years and teams must come up with a creative solution to a long term problem without help from parents or any other adults. Katie’s team went above and beyond and not only won regional and state competitions but also prestigious Odyssey of the Mind awards. They now have the opportunity to travel to the World competition, located in Michigan this May. The kids have 6 weeks to raise $10,000 to be able to attend with their chaperones/parents and compete with kids from all over the world. The kids are going all out with fundraisers locally and doing their best to raise the funds. If you’d like to contribute, the link is http://sahero.org Choose “Click and Pledge” and make sure you enter the amount where it specifies Odyssey of the Mind World. Any donations, positive thoughts or prayers would be greatly appreciated.

My heart is obviously with Katie and her team and I’m going to do my best to try to help them get to World. Thanks for reading!
